Founded in 2016 in the heart of Austin's tech hub, Smart IT Learning began as a niche coding bootcamp. By 2019, we expanded into cybersecurity and data science, securing partnerships with major tech firms. Today, we serve over 5,000 students annually through our hybrid learning model. Our growth has been fueled by a commitment to technical precision and a curriculum that evolves as rapidly as the technology landscape itself.
We recognized early on that traditional academic models often struggled to keep pace with the velocity of industrial change. Founder & Chief Academic Officer
Marcus Thorne established Smart IT Learning in 2016 after a decade of leading engineering teams in Silicon Valley. His vision for a practitioner-led training model has been the driving force behind the company's expansion into cloud and cybersecurity tracks. Marcus holds a Master's degree in Computer Science from Stanford and is a frequent contributor to technical education symposiums across North America.
Dr. Sarah Jenkins
Head of Curriculum
A former Senior Architect at AWS with 15 years of experience in cloud infrastructure. Sarah oversees the technical accuracy of every module we publish. Her research into distributed systems and serverless architectures ensures our Cloud tracks remain at the forefront of industry practices. She manages a team of 20 curriculum developers based in our Austin and London offices.

Lead Cybersecurity Instructor
Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) and CISSP professional. David specializes in red-team operations and brings real-world threat scenarios into the classroom. Before joining Smart IT Learning, David served as a security consultant for federal agencies, where he developed many of the threat modeling frameworks that are now core components of our Cybersecurity Operations track.
